Therapy Practice

My name is Melissa Sanderson, and I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, based in Southern California and currently provide Telehealth Psychotherapy Treatment.  I am trained and experienced in providing evidence-based psychotherapy treatment for anxiety, depression, mood changes, and other mental health difficulties, including addiction and dual diagnoses.  I often work with clients who are struggling in their relationships and dealing with difficult life events.  I have a specialization in family mediation, as it pertains to varied nuclear family structures, which may include the family court system. I am passionate about providing a comprehensive, multi-culturally competent, and LGBTQ+ affirming environment.

I work primarily with adults, couples, and families, and also work with some adolescents.  I draw upon cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), insight development, mindfulness, and primarily utilize a Family Systems/Attachment therapeutic lens, so as to provide a safe and supportive space from an integrative, interpersonal therapeutic approach, tailored to each unique client.  I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families, as well as within both adult and adolescent outpatient treatment (PHP/IOP), and school-based counseling (K-8).  I typically take a direct approach in therapy, so as to develop genuine rapport and enable/encourage my clients to improve upon various aspects of life with my support and establishment of a strong therapeutic alliance (i.e., family relationships, romantic relationships, education/career, grief/loss, traumatic events, etc.).

When I am not providing therapeutic services, I am a Mom to twins and an author.  I consider myself spiritual and non-practicing Jewish, yet culturally competent and experienced in working with clients from a multitude of ethnic, racial, religious backgrounds, including agnostic/atheist.
